Non-reproductive sexual behavior consists of sexual activities animals participate in that do not lead to the reproduction of the species. Although procreation continues to be the primary explanation for sexual behavior in animals , recent observations on animal behavior have given alternative reasons for the engagement in sexual activities by animals. Observed non-procreative sexual activities include non-copulatory mounting without penetration, or by the female , oral sex, genital stimulation, anal stimulation, interspecies mating, and acts of affection. Lions are known to engage in sex to create bonds and interact with each other.

The oral microbiome, which is closely associated with many diseases, and the resident pathogenic oral bacteria, which can be transferred by close physical contact, are important public health considerations. Although the dog is the most common companion animal, the composition of the canine oral microbiome, which may include human pathogenic bacteria, and its relationship with that of their owners are unclear. In this study, 16S rDNA pyrosequencing was used to compare the oral microbiomes of 10 dogs and their owners and to identify zoonotic pathogens.
The datasets analysed during the current study available from the corresponding author on reasonable request. Twenty-five adult mixed breed dogs were selected for this two-phase study. During the first part of this phase, normal daily ration of food offered in the morning was continuously left in the cage. Five hours after the food was removed, the test articles with food were offered in the same manner as in the first part of Phase 2.
